Is Audible Worth It?
Introduction
If you love to read, Audible can be a great way to add more books to your life. But before you dive in and make the $15 monthly payment, it’s worth knowing exactly what you’ll get out of your membership. That way, if you decide that listening to audiobooks isn’t really for you or if Audible isn’t the best fit for your needs, then at least you’ll know why!
What is Audible?
Audible is an online audiobook service that gives you access to more than 180,000 titles, including over 150 exclusive titles.
The best part about Audible is that if you’re not satisfied with your free trial, you can cancel at any time and still keep the two free audiobooks that come with it! That’s what we call a win-win situation.
Another bonus: Audible offers a special credit card (which comes with its own rewards points) that earns 5% back on your purchases — and the points are good for Amazon Prime members who want even more savings on their purchases.
How does Audible work?
- Sign up for an Audible trial or subscription
- Download the audiobooks you want to listen to
- Listen to them on your mobile device or computer
Audible membership costs.
Audible is a monthly subscription service. You can cancel at any time, and you can try out the service for free for 30 days.
When you sign up, you’ll be automatically charged $14.95 per month (this is known as an “Audible credit”). You can also pay in one lump sum upfront by purchasing Audible credits in bundles of $15, $25, $50 and $100. The more credits you buy at once, the cheaper each one becomes.
How to get credits on Audible
- The free trial is great if you have no idea what type of audiobook you’d like and are looking for something new. You get one month of unlimited audio books during this time ($14.95 per month after). If you don’t cancel before the end of that period, they’ll charge your card $14.95 every month until canceled or changed via their app or website (which can be done at any time).
- If all else fails, refer friends! When people join using your link and make an account with Audible — they get a credit as well! Once again though: make sure they really want a membership before sending them over because there is no way to get those back once redeemed against purchases made by the recipient themselves; only if they decide not to subscribe later on after receiving their initial “credit” will they still be able to send those out elsewhere without having been used up already first from someone else who purchased something from within Audible’s catalog instead.”
Are Audible credits a good deal?
To determine if Audible credits are worth it, we need to look at the value of a credit. The value of an Audible credit is equal to one audiobook and no more than $14.99 (including tax). Since you can only buy audiobooks with an Audible credit, that makes their value $15 per credit.
As long as you spend your credits within the next year, they’re definitely worth it — but after that point, they expire. If you don’t use them within 12 months of being issued by Audible (or 1 year after purchasing), they’ll be lost forever — so keep an eye on that expiration date!
How to download audiobooks from Audible.
You can download audiobooks from the Audible app or website. To do this, tap the Download icon next to any title you’re interested in buying, then choose which format you’d like for your device. You can also access your library (if available) and download audiobooks from there.
If you have multiple devices and want to sync all of your downloads across them, go to Settings > Sync & Backup and make sure “Sync My Audiobook Purchases” is enabled. This will automatically sync all of your purchases across both devices once a day.
Where are my audiobooks stored in Audible?
Your Audible audiobooks are stored in your Amazon account. This means that you will be able to access them with any device connected to the same account, including phones and tablets. You can also use the Audible app on Windows 10 devices (phones, tablets, laptops) or Macs.
If you ever lose your Audible account (for example because you’ve forgotten your password), then all of your audiobooks will disappear too!
Why can’t I see my audiobook downloads on my device?
If you’re trying to listen to a book on your phone or tablet, and the audiobook isn’t showing up in the Audible app, it’s likely not a problem with your audio. There are a few other places where you can get access to your audiobooks:
- From Amazon Music (if you have an Amazon Prime membership)
- From the Audible website
If one of these options works for you, go ahead — you won’t be missing out on much!
How to listen to an Audible book.
There are a variety of ways you can listen to an audiobook on your phone, tablet, or computer:
- The Audible app (available for iOS and Android devices)
- Any audiobook purchased from the Audible website
You can also access Audible content via Amazon Alexa devices like Echo and Dot as well as Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote.
Does Audible offer free audiobooks?
Audible doesn’t offer free audiobooks. To get your hands on one, you’ll have to use credits you’ve earned or purchase one outright. If you’re not sure whether or not Audible is worth it for you, I recommend checking out their 30-day free trial to see if it meets your needs.
If it does and you decide to become an Audible member, this page about how Amazon Prime members can get 3 months of Audible for $7.49/month should be helpful!
Is it worth paying for Audible or is there a free alternative?
The first thing to note is that you can always get a free trial of Audible. That means if you’re on the fence about it, you can try it out and see if it’s something you really want before committing to the service.
Some people will look at that and say, “Well then why not just wait until I’m done with this free trial and then cancel my subscription?” There are two main reasons why I think most people should stay with Audible after their trial ends: one being that they’ll be able to access all of their purchases through their library; the other being based on my own personal experience as an audiobook listener.
I have listened to countless audiobooks over the years, but for some reason despite constantly having them available in my library or being able to buy them from iTunes or Amazon (or any other store), I rarely ever listen beyond a few minutes into any given title because either A) I don’t like what’s happening so far or B) something else comes up which takes priority over listening right now (like dinner).
The only way to know if you’ll love listening to audiobooks is to try it out, but here are some things you should know before getting started.
The only way to know if you’ll love listening to audiobooks is to try it out, but here are some things you should know before getting started.
- Audible is a great service, but it’s not for everyone. If you’re someone who prefers physical books and the feel of paper against your fingertips, then audible may not be right for you.
- It’s important to note that Audible offers a free trial so that users can test drive the service without committing or feeling like they have too many options open at once! This allows people who aren’t sure if this is something they will want in their lives much more flexibility than other subscription services offer.
- Users can cancel their subscriptions at any time by going through the website or app directly — no need for phone calls or emails!
Conclusion
I hope you’ll give Audible a try if you haven’t already. It’s a great way to listen to books, and it has many benefits over other options like libraries or streaming services. But let us know in the comments below if there are any questions we didn’t answer here! Thanks for reading!
